The Melanor

The Melanor was an enormous submarine built in 1954, under the instruction of Thomas Wyndham, a little known artist from the November City Dadacafe group in 1916.

Its construction was sponsored almost entirely by the 'Mouse Entertainment Corporation', as a publicity stunt for "The Submarine", a film which was released the same year.

The Melanor was beautifully ornate, and its design was echoed in "the Submarine".

The Submarine was a fully functional vessel in its own right, designed to explore the regions under the south pole (as in the film). The submarine vanished without a trace several years after its lauch along with Wyndham and its entire crew.

Bizarrly (and once more, echoing the plot of the film), one of the crew members appeared several years later, and wrote a book about his experiences with conspiracy theorist John K. Berl, this book does not, however, explain how he managed to return to civilisation, and his identity and sanity are often questioned.
